DURHAM, NORTH CAROLINA (ALBOENEWS) — 23 people were sent to the hospital on Wednesday after a chlorine leak occurred, according to WRAL in Raleigh.
Firefighters arrived at the scene around 2:45 p.m. local time, where the pool area of the YMCA was being evacuated. A Hazmat team was then called to the scene to determine the cause and extent of the leak.
UPDATE: According to WNCN, CBS North Carolina, 6 children are in serious condition as a result of the leak. They also state that 37 children have been affected by the leak, and 2 adults.
UPDATE: In a statement to the media, Durham Police said the total number of people who have been taken to the hospital has risen to 42; 40 children and 2 adults. The children range in age from 6 to 12.
